Overview of Undergraduate Study Abroad Fees in France
School expenses

At present, higher education in France is basically implemented as a free welfare policy. To enroll in public institutions, one only needs to pay a registration fee of around 2770-3770 euros per academic year, as well as around 100 euros in miscellaneous expenses.

There can be significant differences in tuition fees between private universities in France, with cheap social science majors costing around 4000 euros per year, expensive medical and business majors costing around 15000 euros per year, and miscellaneous expenses costing around 200 euros.

rent

The accommodation budget for studying in France should take into account the location factor, that is, the specific study city. Undoubtedly, Paris is the most expensive city in France for rent, with monthly rents ranging from around 500 to over 1000 euros depending on the distance from the city center; Next are big cities such as Lyon, Bordeaux, and Nice, while other small and medium-sized cities in France have similar rental prices, which are relatively much cheaper.

Next is the type of room chosen. When studying in France, students usually choose student apartments, single person rentals, shared apartments, Crous, etc. (sorted in descending order of price), and the price difference between different room types is still very large.

In short, the rental budget depends on the comprehensive factors of location and room type. If you want to choose a fully equipped single apartment and be located in a city center with convenient transportation, then the budget must be sufficient. Usually, a monthly rent of around 700-900 euros in Paris is a relatively normal price;

In other provinces, depending on the city, it is normal for the monthly rent to be around 400-600 euros. The monthly rent mentioned above refers to the CAF housing subsidy. Generally, students can apply for a housing subsidy of around 90-250 euros per month. In addition, some may require an additional payment of 30-50 euros per month for water and electricity network fees.

Calculated based on a monthly price of 350 euros after housing subsidies in other provinces, the annual rent for studying in France is around 34000 yuan.

Based on the monthly price of 600 euros after housing subsidy in Paris, the annual rent for studying in France is around 58000 yuan.

diet

The prices of food in France are actually not too expensive. The cost of a meal in a university cafeteria is around 3-4 euros, and if you cook for yourself, it can be even cheaper. On average, I go shopping at a big supermarket once a week and spend 40-50 euros, which is about 200-300 euros per month, equivalent to 1500-2500 yuan in Chinese currency.

Travel communication

In France, transportation costs also increase in larger cities. The commonly used modes of transportation in the city are M é tro subway, Tram, and Bus. Overall, the monthly transportation cost is around 20 to 30 euros.

If traveling far, you can choose trains, carpools, and buses. Taking the train in France is undoubtedly the most expensive, and there is a significant price difference between pre booking and temporary booking. Therefore, after living in France for a long time, people generally become accustomed to making reservations and planning their itinerary in advance. Young people under the age of 26 can apply for a youth card launched by SNCF and enjoy at least a 25% discount on train tickets.

In short, the monthly transportation and phone bill in France is about 40 euros.

medical

France is a country with an extremely comprehensive social security system, which not only benefits French people but also overseas students, such as medical insurance.

The French government stipulates that students who have enrolled in courses for more than 4 months at recognized French educational institutions and are under the age of 28 can automatically join the university social health insurance system, which is mandatory.

The basic medical insurance costs around 100 euros per academic year, and this insurance is only responsible for reimbursement of major illness hospitalization and 70% of outpatient medical expenses. If you participate in additional insurance, the remaining 30% can be reimbursed according to different proportions.

Students studying in France will receive a lifelong social insurance number along with their social insurance coverage. Students with social insurance can enjoy medical insurance. In addition, if they successfully find employment in France after graduation, they can also enjoy social welfare such as work-related injury, retirement, and unemployment benefits.

Entertainment and Leisure

For international students, in addition to the necessary expenses mentioned above, there will also be some additional leisure and entertainment expenses in daily life, such as shopping, meals, watching movies, and outings.

Most international students can roughly control it within 200 to 300 euros.

Without affecting their studies, students can use their winter and summer vacation time for work study programs with the approval of relevant departments. As long as one works legally according to French policies, their income can basically cover all the expenses needed for the entire year.

Generally, international students can earn around 1400-1600 euros per month for providing restaurant services or teaching Chinese to those who are proficient in French. For those with strong personal abilities, they can even earn more.

In summary, when considering all aspects of expenses, the cost of studying abroad in other provinces of France for one year, excluding tuition fees, is about 60000 to 80000 RMB, while in Paris it is about 100000 to 150000 RMB.

Regarding the issue of transferring majors

French schools generally place more emphasis on the background of the original major, so the feasibility of transferring majors for further studies is not very high, especially if one wants to directly pursue a master's degree. The previous statement that France can accept transfer majors generally refers to two possibilities: A. transferring majors but being admitted at a lower level; B、 For some management majors in higher business schools, they are not too restricted by their original majors.

Regarding the issue of downgraded admission

There are usually two possibilities for downgrading admission:

A、 The change in major is due to the fact that admission to French schools is based on whether the knowledge you have previously learned can meet the needs of your current major. Therefore, if you change majors, your foundation will not be sufficient, and there is a higher possibility of being downgraded;

B、 The curriculum of many domestic schools is not practical enough, with a large proportion of public courses and insufficient professional courses. Even if the professional names remain unchanged, due to the significant differences in teaching content and depth compared to foreign countries, there is still a possibility of being downgraded.

Regarding the issue of cross regional visas

France has five consulates in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan, and Chengdu, each with its own designated consular district. Students are not allowed to choose to collect and participate in interviews on their own. This is a principle. But for some students who have been living and studying outside the designated area, providing a temporary residence permit for more than six months and relevant proof, they can choose to apply for a consulate visa in the jurisdiction where they live.
